The Prime Minister-elect, Tony Abbott, has unveiled his frontbench team, but come under immediate criticism for the lack of gender balance.

Just one woman, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop (right), will sit in Cabinet.

Mr Abbott said he wanted Sophie Mirabella to be a senior minister, but it's still unclear whether Ms Mirabella will win her Victorian electorate of Indi.

Mr Abbott maintains all positions have been awarded on merit.
